Faces of ACEs: Thriving Lives
Get Local Support

ACE’s research has rapidly spread since the 1990’s ACEs Study by Kaiser Permanente and the CDC. This research sparked a movement of individuals and communities to address 10 major childhood traumas and promote resiliency. It has since expanded to include many more traumatic experiences on an individual, community, and historical level. The work continues through national and state groups, as well as local coalitions and dedicated individuals.

Words to Know:
  • Trauma- Trauma is an overwhelming event that exceeds our ability to cope.
  • Toxic Stress- chronic, strong, and/or frequent situations that challenge our ability to think, focus, manage our emotions or stay well
  • Resilience- The ability to overcome stress and bounce back from hard things
  • Wellness- healthy habits done on a daily basis to achieve physical and mental health. Instead of just surviving, you’re thriving.
